Ravi Dykema

Publisher, Company President, Journalist, Yoga Master

Ravi Dykema embodies a rare combination of a successful entrepreneurial businessman, veteran editor and writer, and an advanced yoga practitioner/instructor/therapist.

Mr. Dykema followed his soul and devoted four years in his early 20s to the study and practice of classical yoga in an Indian ashram. During those years he taught professionally in India, and ran yoga centers in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and in southern Wisconsin. He was given the rare title, “Yogiraj,” by his guru, Yogarishi Dr. Swami Gitananda.

Soon after his return to the U.S.A. in 1976, Mr. Dykema began publishing magazines for the fledgling holistic market in Madison, Wisconsin, as well as continuing his yoga teaching career with posts at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay and the University of Wisconsin Extension (statewide).

He is currently Adjunct Professor of yoga in the Traditional Eastern Arts Department at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. Mr. Dykema is also writing a textbook on yoga history, philosophy and practice.

Mr. Dykema founded Attunement magazine in Madison, one of the USAs first resource directories. A few years later Mr. Dykema was elected president of the Association of Community Resource Publishers, which had its headquarters in Washington D.C. In 1985 Mr. Dykema bought Nexus, Colorado’s Holistic Journal. He is still Nexus Publishing Inc.’s president, publisher and editor-in-chief. Mr. Dykema has built Nexus to a 60,000-Statewide-circulation, 80-page bi-monthly directory/magazine devoted to holistic lifestyles.

Mr. Dykema believes that the publication's success is due to its credibility among readers who have come to trust the magazine's 20-year track record as the best way to find local holistic information, services and products. Ravi's role in the publication is substantial. He develops the editorial focus along with his staff, interviews luminaries in holistic health and spirituality, edits all the copy, manages a staff of five and runs the business.

Parallel to his publishing work, Mr. Dykema has been gaining experience in the trenches of holistic healing. He has been training students and maintaining a private practice in yoga therapy for 23 years. He is on the adjunct faculty at the Naropa Institute where he helped to create this country's only Bachelors degree program in Traditional Eastern Arts with a concentration in yoga. He has trademarked his own style of yoga: YogaLaya™. Mr. Dykema has extensive experience not only as a publisher, but also as an advertiser in his own magazine.

Mr. Dykema believes that his newest venture (with four partners), Holistic.com, will become the nexus of the holistic world, connecting people to the information, to the skilled help and to the products that will improve their lives. Mr. Dykema will be Vice President of marketing of Holistic.com. He brings his 30 years as a holistic health entrepreneur, and his 20 years as a publishing entrepreneur to the creation of the website that he believes will thrust holistic health into the mainstream, making it an important part of most Americans’ lives.
