Yoga is an ancient holistic Indian system of exercises, postures, breathing, meditation and relaxation. Classic texts say yoga works to promote health by increasing the body’s store of prana or vital energy often blocked by inactivity, stress, emotional troubles, poor diet and other factors. Yoga helps with just about every physical ailment, staves off anxiety and relieves stress. Yoga therapy, usually taught in individual sessions, addresses specific physical or psychological problems with exercises to be done at home. Phoenix rising yoga therapy is an emerging technique that combines classical yoga and elements of contemporary body-mind psychology including therapeutic dialogue techniques. Training to become a yoga teacher varies. Adequate training requires at least several years or more of instruction and practice, and training to become a yoga therapist requires considerably more instruction.
