The basic tenet of chiropractic is awareness of the innate intelligence within each person that allows for healing unless past physical, emotional, and chemical traumas block the natural pathways. The blocking occurs when the spine is out of alignment or lacking flexibility. A chiropractor tries to relieve pressure on the nervous system with precise adjustments to the spinal segments or to individual vertebrae. Treatments depend on the individual’s complaints, but always with the belief that by restoring flexibility, health will be restored.
The chiropractic techniques for restoring the neuro-musculoskeletal system, developed 100 years ago by Daniel David Palmer, are used to treat back pain, headaches and general pain due to injury and asthma, among other internal disorders.
Network Chiropractic was introduced in 1979 by Dr. Donald Epstein. This system relies on a special sequence of chiropractic techniques to restore flexibility to the spine. It includes both the more aggressive traditional manipulation and a gentle, non-forceful touching and tapping. Education for chiropractors is a four-year, post graduate program.
