When we feel the need to be pampered, a warm bath is the perfect way to relax and unwind. Luxurious natural products such as essential oils and mineral salts can turn your bath into an all-natural healing sanctuary.
Bathing essentials also include a bath pillow to cushion your head and neck for a long soak as well as a water filter if your tap water is heavily chlorinated. (Avoid too-hot water since it dries the skin and depletes energy.)
Here are five easy steps to a sensual, healing bath:
1. Create a soothing atmosphere with scented candles and soft music. Place organically grown cotton towels near your bath.
2. Most importantly, soften and scent the bathwater. Use vegetable-based bath oils such as sesame, hazelnut, or jojoba. You can also combine bath oils and mineral salts with scented essential oils such as rose or lavender. Most experts recommend adding ten drops of essential oil to the bath for best results.
Here are a few luxurious essential oils for scenting bathwater:
Rosemary: energizing and stimulating
Rose: heart opening and soothing
Eucalyptus: for sore muscles or respiratory congestion
Chamomile: relaxing
Lavender: regenerative
Jasmine: creates sense of well-being
Orange: eases respiratory or digestive problems
3. The ultimate bath must include natural soaps made with coconut, olive oil or other chemical-free bases. Avoid soaps that contain artificial colors, surfactants and petroleum bases.
4. To smooth the skin and stimulate circulation, look for natural-bristle skin brushes, loofahs or an ayate cloth (a loosely woven natural fiber cloth). Salt or natural body scrubs can help exfoliate rough elbows and knees. Use a natural pumice stone to soften callused feet.
5. After your bath, continue the luxury by moisturizing your skin with all-natural, herb-based body oil or lotion. And finally, wrap yourself in comforting all-natural organic cotton towels.
