What if you choose only two new forms of bodywork to explore this year? At that rate, the first part of the 21st century will be over before you’ve tried the ones we’ve listed here! And it’s a sure bet that new techniques will be arriving at a dizzying pace.
Diverse as they are, most forms of bodywork recognize that the integration of mind, body and spirit are central to healing. What’s different now: many encourage, even require, personal input and cooperation. No longer a passive activity in which you place your body upon a table and wait to be done to, bodywork now asks that you actively participate in your own healing process.
This is by no means a comprehensive list, but it’s plenty to get you started. Many of the techniques listed here are thousands of years old or have evolved from modalities thousands of years old. Others are new, but no less valid. And most offer the opportunity to become a part of the process—not a bystander.
