Facing Crisis: Terror Strikes at Home
David Lazaroff, Chairman, Holistic.com, Inc. As published in Holistic.com

The recent terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and The Pentagon in Washington, D.C. present us with a crisis. The people of the world feel these events with different shades of pain. How can we address these terrorist acts in a way that heals us most thoroughly and builds our strength individually, as a nation, and as citizens of the world? Having sustained injury physically, energetically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. We must first attend to the trauma at hand.
  1. Stop the physical bleeding,
  2. nourish your body that it may be strong,
  3. comprehend the impact of events, both extents and limits,
  4. seek emotional shelter with family, friends, and community, and
  5. pray that you may understand how the situation calls for your spiritual action.

When the trauma is attended to and the situation is stabilized, it is necessary to attend to the ongoing healing process. This may involve grieving, and bringing completion to ended relationships, and rebuilding a sense of normalcy to your life.

To be complete, a healing needs to involve review and the learning of lessons. We must address our vulnerability on the physical, energetic, mental, emotional, and spiritual levels. How were we weak? What actions of the past fostered the events of the trauma to take place. In what way were we innocent and in what way were we as individuals, a family, or a society responsible for the environment that bred such actions?

Blame does not help. Understanding helps healing. This is important to understand. Blame fosters a sense of separation. A sense of separation is dangerous because it makes us victims and disempowers us as active shapers of our world. If we accept disempowerment, we are making a space where hate can grow and we truly become victims.

The ancient healers of India understood that all disease begins with a disconnect from the Divine. They also understood that the greatest healing begins with the re-establishment of our sense of connection with the Divine and our recognition of our interconnectedness.

To all who feel the pain of traumatic events, I send you the prayers of my heart. May your crisis pass quickly and may you reconnect with the Divinity in your life. May you find strength in the passing of your discomfort and from the lessons you find in your trials. Peace to you. Peace to all.
